Les maladies auto-immunes sont déclenchées par une activation dérégulée des cellules immunitaires, qui peut être liée à des causes génétiques. Les modèles d’auto-immunité reposant sur des rongeurs permettent de déchiffrer les mécanismes qui déclenchent et entretiennent la maladie chez les patients.

Etudes de cas sur les modèles d’auto-immunité
Modèle préclinique de rat pour la polyarthrite rhumatoïde
L’arthrite induite par le collagène chez le rat est un modèle de synovite chronique qui ressemble à la polyarthrite rhumatoïde humaine. Des rats Lewis génétiquement sensibles immunisés par voie intra-cutanée avec du collagène de type II émulsionné dans de l’adjuvant incomplet de Freund (amorce et rappel à 1 semaine d’intervalle) développent une polyarthrite dans les 10 à 14 jours.
